Justin Gaethje had aimed to start 2018 with some deserved rest, but Kevin Lee might get him back in the saddle sooner than planned.
In a Tuesday appearance on "," the lightweight fan favorite pegged Lee as his next desired opponent, a choice stemming from Lee's purported change of face following their friendly interaction at the UFC Summer Kickoff press conference in May.
“First time I ever met him, he was nice,” said Gaethje, per. “Then he talked shit saying I was fan-boying over him. He doesn’t know what respect is. I’ll never show him respect again, that’s for sure.
“I just like punching loudmouths in the face.”
The former WSOF champ had aimed to rest up until the summer after staging a pair ofopposite Michael Johnson and Eddie Alvarez in July and December, respectively, but as he admitted Tuesday, he may not heed his own designs.
“I’m sure I’ll get the itch sooner rather than later. I said I wanted to wait around until June, July. But I’m sure I’ll get the itch sooner.”
Like Gaethje – who suffered his first career loss in a third-round knockout courtesy of Alvarez at UFC 218 – Lee is also coming off an L, tapping to Tony Ferguson in the third round of an interim lightweight title bout at UFC 216 in October. The 25-year-old has previously targeted the spring for a return to action.
