Rumors are swirling about a potential bout between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former heavyweight king Stipe Miocic. Jones appeared to confirm those rumors on Wednesday.
The date of the UFC’s July card – Saturday, July 6 in Las Vegas – coincides with International Fight Week.
Upon Jones’ return to the Octagon in December, bitter rival Daniel Cormier held the championship belts in both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. Since then, Jones has captured and defended the light heavyweight belt (which had been relinquished by Cormier) and now looks poised to face Miocic at heavyweight in what could be an interim title fight.
Cormier hasn’t fought since defending the heavyweight title against Derrick Lewis in November. Should Jones and Miocic sign on the dotted line, it would be Jones’ third fight since Cormier was last in the Octagon.
Miocic has been idle since losing his heavyweight title to Cormier at UFC 226 in July.
