Jon Jones and Amanda Nunes will defend their respective titles at UFC 239 in Las Vegas on July 6, president Dana White told.
Jones will put the light heavyweight belt on the line versus Thiago Santos, while Nunes will put her bantamweight crown up for grabs against Holly Holm. All parties have verbally agreed to the bouts, leaving the official signatures as the last hurdle to clear.
White delivered the news hours after Jones teased a potential July bout with former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. Though both fighters appeared interested in a tilt, the matchup was never seriously considered, according to Okamoto’s sources.
The bout will mark Jones’ third in a seven-month span, matching the number of times he fought in the previous three years. The 31-year-old is coming off a convincing decision victory over Anthony Smith in March.
Santos is on a three-fight winning streak. He’s taken his last two encounters within a minute, propelling him into title contention.
Nunes is the UFC’s lone current two-division champion. She also holds the featherweight title, which she claimed with a knockout victory over Cris Cyborg in December.
Holm has been sidelined since June due to a knee injury. The former bantamweight champion is coming off a win over Megan Anderson.
