Khabib Nurmagomedovof his next fight, but his opponent is still unknown.
the UFC tried to schedule a four-fighter tournament featuring Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor, Georges St-Pierre, and Nate Diaz, but those plans have fallen through. The champ is still prepared to fight in September or October and has his sights set on one opponent in particular.
“We believe the fight to make is the Georges St-Pierre fight at 155 pounds,” Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz told Helwani.
“Khabib wants to fight for legacy and not for a soap opera drama show, and we think Conor doesn’t deserve this opportunity.”
Nurmagomedov won the lightweight title – vacated by McGregor – in a decision victory over Al Iaquinta in April. Since then, McGregor infamously attacked a bus carrying Nurmagomedov, sparking speculation the two would settle their score in the Octagon. McGregor hasn’t fought for the promotion since November 2016, however.
“The guy hasn’t fought in almost two years. Why does he deserve the fight for the title? He should get his ass back in the line and work his way up,” Abdelaziz said.
St-Pierre said in April that thefor him to fight Nurmagomedov and recently revealed to Helwani he isn’t ready to fight again since defeating Michael Bisping in November.
