Francis Ngannou needed just 44 seconds to TKO Curtis Blaydes.
In the UFC Beijing main event Saturday, Ngannou sent Blaydes to the mat with a massive overhand right. Official Marc Goddard had to step in to save Blaydes from more punishment.
It was a much-needed victory for Ngannou, who has only known defeat in 2018. He was dominated by Stipe Miocic in a heavyweight title fight in January and disappointed in a unanimous decision loss to Derrick Lewis – a de facto No. 1 contender’s match – in July.
Blaydes entered Saturday’s event as the heavy betting favorite and the next man in line for a title shot had he emerged victorious. Instead, Ngannou shook off his previous defeats to end his 2018 slate in spectacular fashion.
