UFC welterweight Alex Oliveira’s ex-wife told police in Rio de Janeiro that the fighter assaulted her Saturday, according to Gustavo Setti of Brazilian outlet UOL.
Oliveira’s ex-wife said she was visiting their 5-month-old child at the fighter’s parents’ home when he arrived in what she described as an intoxicated state. She said Oliveira punched her and pulled her hair before taking the child on his motorcycle, local police chief Andre Lourenco told UOL.
Police found the child with a nearby family member, though Oliveira was not at the scene.
Oliveira’s manager, Alex Davis, told ESPN’s Marc Raimondi that the accusations are not true and the 31-year-old is expected to meet with police soon. Davis also denies that Oliveira is attempting to elude authorities.
“The initial report was inaccurate,” Davis said. “He was not wanted by the police. He did not assault anyone. He will give his version to the sheriff today and we will base any further information on that.”
Globo also reports that Oliveria will go to the police station on Monday.
Oliveira (20-7-1) last competed in April at UFC Fort Lauderdale and lost via decision to Mike Perry. The Rio de Janeiro native has suffered three losses in his last five fights.
The UFC has not commented on the matter.
