Heavyweights Francis Ngannou and Junior Dos Santos will face off at UFC 239 in Las Vegas on July 6, a source told.
The titanic clash bolsters an already star-filled card. Jon Jones will defend his light heavyweight title versus Thiago Santos in the main event, while Amanda Nunes will put her bantamweight belt on the line against Holly Holm.
Additionally, it was reported Friday that a fight between UFC newcomer Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal will also be a part of the main card.
Ngannou is coming off a stunning victory over Cain Velasquez, whom he knocked out in just 26 seconds in February. Meanwhile, dos Santos is riding a three-fight winning streak. The ex-UFC heavyweight champion most recently took out Derrick Lewis via second-round TKO on March 9 to force his way back into the title picture.
The winner of the bout should move into prime position for a shot at Daniel Cormier. Expected to walk away from the sport in March, Cormier pushed his retirement date, but he’ll likely take on Brock Lesnar before entertaining the idea of taking on the division’s top contender.
